Civics: Bias and Public Opinion Scrapbook

December 4th, 2008

Topic/Purpose: How does the media influence public opinion?

Find news articles about specific events impacting our nation.
    Print/cut out the article.
Read the article and summarize (short paragraph)
Identify bias in the article. Explain and respond with your opinions and thoughts.
Is the article attempting to influence public opinion? If so, how?

- Work in groups of 3

- The group is responsible for 15 articles and an individual response for each article.

- Divide the work equally.

- Compile in a scrapbook form. Cute or formal, your choice.

The individual who chooses the article summarizes the article and determines the bias/influence of the article. Everyone else in the group responds to the article chooser agreeing or disagreeing, and offering foundation for their opinion.
